Does Hair Make You A Better Manager?
So does having hair on your head make you a more successful manager? We are going to look at a list of English Premier league Managers and their barnets to see if the follically challenged ones are struggling.
Arsenal: Arsène Wenger (French/since 1996) – Norwood Rating – 1
Hes got a thick head of hair and an impressive CV…a coincidence…We think not!
Aston Villa: Alex McLeish (Scottish/newly appointed this summer) – Norwood Rating 3
Hes still clinging on to some hair just as his team are trying to cling on to a top half finish
Blackburn Rovers: Steve Kean (Scottish/since Dec 2010) – Norwood Rating 6
It is a surprise to many that Kean is still in the job but is his teams poor results down to his lack of hair? We will let you decide.
Bolton Wanderers: Owen Coyle (Scottish/Jan 2010) – Norwood rating 3
His Bolton team are struggling but a recent “hair raising” win over Liverpool has them right back on track
Chelsea: André Villas-Boas (Portuguese/Newly appointed this summer) – Norwood Rating – 1
Hes cool, hes calm, hes collected and he is managing one of the richest clubs in the world
Everton: David Moyes (Scottish/since 2002) – Norwood Rating – 2
Hes worked miracles with very little money, constantly getting Everton into the top half of the table
Fulham: Martin Jol (Dutch/Newly appointed this summer) – Norwood Rating – 6
Previously sacked by Spurs and trying to do a job at Fulham. Inconsistent to say the least
Liverpool: Kenny Dalglish (Scottish/since Jan 2011) – Norwood rating – 2
Can his full head of hair bring Liverpool the success they crave. Only time will tell
Manchester City: Roberto Mancini (Italian/since Dec 2009) Norwood Rating – 2
This could finally be the year that City win the league. Would a bald manager have done this good?
Manchester United: Alex Ferguson (Scottish/since 1986) – Norwood rating – 2
If hair really is a measure of success then look no further than Sir Alex Ferguson. He is the most decorated manager in British Football history. One wonders if he would have don’t this well if he was a Norwood 6?

Newcastle United: Alan Pardew (English/since Dec 2010) – Norwood rating - 2
The silver fox is working miracles at Newcastle this year
Norwich City: Paul Lambert (Scottish/ Since 2009) – Norwood rating – 2
Lamberts first stint as a premier league manager is going well so far
Queens Park Rangers: Mark Hughes (Welsh/Since Jan 2012) – Norwood rating – 1
The Welsh legend seems to have put QPR back on track.
Stoke City: Tony Pulis (Welsh/since June 2006) – Norwood Rating – 6
One of the few bald managers that seem to be having success. Maybe hair doesn’t matter in this case?
Sunderland: Martin O’Neill (N. Irish/since Jan 2012) – Norwood Rating – 3 and a 1/2
O’Neill is still clinging on to some hair and he has worked wonders with Sunderland since taking over.
Swansea City: Brendan Rodgers (Northern Irish/since July 2010) – Norwood rating 3
Rodgers has guided Swansea to the Premier League through the play offs and, so far, is doing a great job
Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Redknapp (English/ since Oct 2008) – norwood rating – 2
A surprisingly full head of hair for the 60 something. Redknapp and his team look certain of a top 4 finish this year
West Bromwich Albion: Roy Hodgson (English/since Feb 2011) Norwood Rating – 2
Another older manager with a full head of hair. He didn’t succeed at Liverpool but seems to work wonders with the smaller teams
Wigan Athletic: Roberto Martínez (Spanish/since the summer of 2009) – Norwood rating 4
The Wigan boss hair is starting to drop a division and his team could be about to do the same…
Wolverhampton Wanderers: Mick McCarthy (English/since July 2006) – Norwood rating – 4
We wonder how long Mick can keep his wolves team in the top flight. He is clinging on to their status at the minute and also clinging on to his Norwood 4 hairline.
So lets sum up. We are going to look at, arguably the 6 biggest clubs in the premiership:
Man City – Got Hair
Man United – Got hair
Spurs – Got Hair
Chelsea – Got Hair
Liverpool – Got Hair
Arsenal – Got Hair
In contrast, lets look at some of the smaller, struggling teams
